The First RxSM Self-Medicated Film Expo, sponsored by UV Vodka and hosted by The Belmont in Austin Tx, kicks off at 12 noon March 16th, 2010, with films from Germany, UK, New York, Austin, and Baltimore. Beginning at 5:45 pm Austin filmmakers Stephen Floyd and Christopher Petkus will screen their short films “Fanucci’s Number” and “The Impressionist” along with selected scenes from their feature “Enclosure." Headlining the Dakota room are Austin’s Elizabeth Spear and Kendall Lynch presenting their film “Forward/Backward." "Forward/Backward" has won the People’s Choice Award at The Different Than What? Film Festival and Best Culturally Inclined Film at the Strasbourg International Film Festival. At 9pm, the U.S. Premiere of the film “The Why” will be the featured event at the Self Medicated Film Expo. “The Why” will be screened at 9:00 pm on the patio as part of a triple-feature of award winning films. The premiere will bring its writers/directors Anthony Pedone, Eli Higgins, and Stephen Floyd together from Boston, Victoria, and Austin to present the film. In addition to this being the US Premier, DVDs will be released that night as well and will be for sale at the event. Following the premiere, at 11pm, RxSM welcomes “Junkie Nurse”, winner of Best Feature at Seattle True Independent Film Festival and the Tregor International Film Festival. Director Jeff Orgil will be at the event to present the film that won him Best Director at the Downtown Film Festival in Los Angeles and at the Strasbourg International Film Festival. At 1:00 am the Giallo-style film, “The Red Door” by Jason Bognacki will close out the night. DVD TALK calls “The Red Door, “the most horrifying thing committed to film in a long time...Immensely stylish...Unrelenting”. It won Best Film, Best Actor, (David Fine) best Actress (Estefania Iglesias) at the 2009 Shockfest in Hollywood, CA and Best Musical Score at The Strasbourg International Film Festival.
